Way of Life Mix by Lashing Studios - Lasher - 23-08-2016

Hey guys! Here's my attempt at mixing this song! Found it challenging to deal particularly with the sibilantes in the voice and opted to fetch the cymbals (hi hat included) from the OH's/room only as the miked track seemed to be clipping.

Tell me what you think of my approaches!

Best regards

I like the creative panning on the guitars effects and vocals , On my monitors the cymbals ,hi hat ,ride are jumping out ,maybe some dynamic eq to tame some Hf transients .
Thinking while listening the vocals could be a just a touch more fuller in the low frequencies and touch more effects on the splash on the snare would sound great, but all personal taste things.
Well Done

Thanks Thedon! I'll try to render a new version 'till the end of the week with a more tamed HF and I'll also give it a go at your other recommendations to see what they sound like!

The bass guitar is too bassy for the rest of the mix. The bass and guitar tones sound great, but i want to say that the other sounds have had their bottom overly removed and pushed back with revb. Try double check eq and make sure it is improving the sounds. It sounds like you want the vocal behind the snare. Push it back just enough to be behind then bring the gtrs back in reference to the vocals, to get the right depth.

Did you hear this on headphones? I've also had this indication by someone who heard it in headphones and it pushes the bass frequencies higher, in my monitors I don't feel it but I'll run through some headphones to compare and see if I can adjust.

Most of the eq applied is only to clean unwanted frequencies (hpf on guitars, snare, vocal), also done some complementary eq on guitars, but nothing removing too much bottom end, can you specify on which instruments you feel it?

I'll also take a look at the reverb applied on vocals and OH, it may be applying an extra HP.

Regarding the depth, I'm "hiding" the vocals due to the sibilantes she produces in a heavy way, but maybe I've pushed the guitars also too far back.

Thanks for listening and giving me pointers!
