4Graham - wesleyamltd - 01-04-2016

I used all recorded trks except DIs

The vocals are cool but difficult to automate, I did my best.

Look at mix two

and....

Mix Three: I used Ozone7 dynamics multiband compression on overheads to tame the cymbals. I made each band 50% wet/dry

UPDATE:

I originally mixed this song a year ago and wanted to check my progress. This is the 2017 version. I mixed this one in four hr.s as opposed to the 6 hrs. back in 2016.

Feedback welcome.

If you make some volume adjustment it will sound much better.

The vocals?

RE: 4Graham - Mandubien - 11-04-2016

Hi !

The overall EQ is very focused on the mids. So vocals are totally buried in the mix. Did you use some reference tracks ?

I did not. I hear the vocals very clearly during the versus, but now that you pointed out the mid issue, I hear that they are cloudly in the chorus parts.

I think totally buried is overstated, if you meant it to be taken literally.

RE: 4Graham - Shul - 13-04-2016

Here are my observations.

*kick is missing in most of the song. Needs more definition.
*overall guitar sound has a nice tone. They are not harsh but I not too muddy.
*I agree the voice needs automation to make sure it stays above the mix.. Or perhaps a brighter eq would help.

Not a bad mix, keep it up.

Cool, thanks for the input. Im gonna give the track another shot this weekend and attempt to fix the problem areas.

I felt the triplet on the kick when emphasized didn't feel right to me so I buried it, but at a huge cost of impact throughout the song. But you are right.

RE: 4Graham - Mandubien - 14-04-2016

You really should use reference tracks to mix. It will give you a lot of information to balance you mix (pan, EQ, comp, volumes). The most difficult part is to decide which one(s) to choose :p
